Subject: Time to Rebalance the U.S.-Japan Security Agreement

To the U.S. Department of Defense, State Department, and the White House,

We, as American citizens and taxpayers, are writing to voice our deep concern regarding the continued financial imbalance in the U.S.-Japan security relationship. While we value our alliance with Japan, it is clear that the current cost-sharing agreement does not reflect fairness, reciprocity, or economic reality.

For decades, American taxpayers have borne a disproportionate share of the costs associated with defending Japan—a prosperous, sovereign nation fully capable of contributing more to its own security. This is no longer just a matter of budget—it’s a matter of principle.

We believe it is time for Japan to pay its fair share for the U.S. military presence that ensures its defense. In a time when U.S. families are facing record inflation, budget constraints, and growing national debt, it is unacceptable that our forces remain stationed abroad under agreements that favor foreign governments over American citizens.

We are calling on our elected officials and national leadership to urgently reassess the terms of the U.S.-Japan security agreement. If a fair cost-sharing arrangement cannot be reached, the United States must seriously consider withdrawing military assets and redirecting critical defense resources back to our homeland and to other partners who are willing to share the load.

This is not about isolationism—it's about accountability. It’s about ensuring that America’s strength abroad is not subsidized by injustice at home.

We urge you to take action and restore fairness to this vital relationship—because America’s defense resources should never be taken for granted.

Respectfully,

Your fellow Americans at
